If the whole thing can be absorbed in a glance, like a good poster, and if every place looks like every other place in the park and also feels like every other place when you try it, the park affords little stimulation to all these differing uses and moods. Nor is there much reason to return to it again and again.

Airport Design: A Fresh Look at an Unconventional Space

Don't Miss... Things We Love    Case Studies

If the modern airport is the welcome mat to the city, an introduction to place, why is it often no different to the terminal you just left from? Here at Place Partners we believe airports are amongst some of the most dynamic, active and magical places. Yet with all the time spent waiting in airports, they also fail to provide great places for people to relax, enjoy and feel connected to the places beyond the airport walls.

The Schiphol Airport Park in Amsterdam is an exemption to the rule. The Park comprises an outdoor and indoor space that attempts to stimulate the senses. Users are encouraged to interact with a wide variety of textures, enjoy the aroma of flowering plants, and listen to a soundtrack of 'park' sounds.
